RepRap'd Art Exhibition

I'm very happy to announce the opening of an exhibition of RepRapped artworks collated by Bronwyn Holloway-Smith, Rhys Dippie and myself. The exhibition is at Massey University in Wellington, New Zealand. Most of the 10 exhibits are resurrections of lost items from the Te Papa collection. It was great fun setting this one up and my particular thanks go to Bronwyn for setting everything in place.

The sperm whale's tooth in particular has a curious aesthetic charm, and the tapa beater is the largest thing I've ever seen RepRap'd.

Can't wait to try this! Thanks!

As per discussion with Vik, I've mirrored the pieces here:
http://objects.reprap.org/wiki/Artifacts
carefully establishing that it's your work.

It's sort of experimental (a web-exhibition?), and I'd feel more comfortable if you (Bronwyn et. al. ) give it a once-over and a good wiki-fiddle, before signing off on it and/or requesting major changes, etc? Looking at it right now, I realize that each page should include a direct link and explanatory text directly to Bronwyn's page. I'll do that tomorrow morning if no one does it earlier.

At that point, it might be appropriate to also insert a link on RepRap.org twiki home page to the artifacts in question, but that's Bronwyn's decision, since it's her installation ('installation': art theory term). It would mean more people would see her work, but also that she wouldn't get as many initial click-throughs to her work. Long term, she may get attention via people surfing the mediawiki over the next many years, and catch a bit more of the RepRap halo that way, which would be good. As an idea, she could even put "RepRap.org - visiting arist" on her c.v.? Again, Bronwyn's call, but a fun idea.

That's all hypothetical, mind.

It occurs to me it would be fun to organize a web-exhibition on the mediawiki sometime in the next two months of mathematical sculpture. It's probably way too early for that, but I don't think it would interfere with the more general reprap.org stuff, so it might be fun.
