I'm managing to successfully print 250 mm herringbone racks using 0.1 mm layers.

i was thinking with this style, could a person mount the motor on the frame of your reprap, and leave the flat gear on the printing bed.?

You could do it either way. I'm actually going to build this system into a delta robot just for fun, so this issue doesn't come up for me. :-)
