Geared extrusion

Adrian and I designed this gearbox today. We made it on the Strat too, coz RP's good like that. It includes brass bushes for the gear bearings and bought in MOD gears. Previously, using the 12V Solarbotics GM3 motor, I'd been getting stalls at low speeds. This new arrangement safely cuts output rpm down to a third, which, I'm hoping, will give the other parameters a bit of breathing space. We shall see...

Comments:
Can someone remind me why the flexible steel cable is needed with the angle offset motor? Isn't the filament flexible enough to bend out of the way instead?

What is your choice of 3D modeller?
(ie. in what program did you modelled it?)

tom: it was so we had a design that could handle both rigid and flexible materials.

khiraly: this pic is from the extremely non-open-soruce SolidEdge. Ed and I, for various reasons too dull to report, started this on a Friday morning with the idea of having it all done by close of play the same day. Ed had an exam to invigilate from 12.30 to 2.30, which put a bit of a dent in the effort. So he did it on SE, which is at least fast. I'll reverse-engineer it into AoI soon.
